No more songs were released from the original version of the "Sound Of The Underground" album. Instead the girls had decided to go with a brand new single, a cover of the Pointer Sister's 1980s smash "Jump (For My Love)". Shortened to "Jump", the track featured on the soundtrack to the successful Christmas hit movie "Love Actually". The girls remarked that it was nice to release a fun cheesy pop track, after three relatively moody singles! Released in November 2003, "Jump" peaked at #2, losing out to Westlife's own attempt at an 80s cover - Barry Manilow's "Mandy". It was with some surprise when it became apparent Girls Aloud and Westlife would be battling it out for #1, considering they shared the same manager in Louis Walsh. Despite this set back, the single was a huge success in its own right. It sold over 180,000 copies in total and remains their 2nd biggest selling single to date, managing to sell enough copies in the last 6 weeks of 2003 to become the 42nd biggest selling single of that year. The album "Sound Of The Underground" was re-issued in December 2003 to include the single. "Jump" was also included on the second album "What Will The Neighbours Say?" released in November 2004. |
