Following on from their successful debut tour in May 2005 came their 9th single "Long Hot Summer". It ended their consecutive run of Top 5s by only reaching #7 at the end of August 2005, falling well below target considering it was a brand new single. However one of the girls was quoted to have said "Long Hot Summer" had been intended to be simply a "fun release" and was not the proper first single off the forthcoming new album, in defense of the average performance of the song on the charts. It did end up making the album, but the song was not used in television adverts promoting "Chemistry". The Top 6 in this week consisted of #1 Oasis, #2 Rihanna, #3 Daniel Powter, #4 Simon Webbe, #5 James Blunt & #6 Black Eyed Peas. "Long Hot Summer" sold just under 50,000 copies, 18,000 of which were sold in the first week. |
