A fortnight after the release of their third album "Chemistry", the girls battled it out for a second time to score a Christmas #1 with Dee C Lee cover version "See The Day".  First time around was with debut single "Sound Of The Underground", which made #1 quite easily.  With this attempt they fell quite some way short, entering at #9 - their lowest charting single so far, and the second time they'd missed the Top 5 in 11 singles.

Similarly to Girls Aloud, 2005's chart topper was also from a reality TV show - X Factor winner Shayne Ward's "That's My Goal" had rocketed to the top of the chart with first week sales in excess of 700,000 copies.

It wasn't all bad news for the girls.  Sales in the Christmas week were very high, and saw their album sell just under 100,000 in a single week.  "See The Day" itself was on course to sell 20,000+ in its first week, which is twice the amount usually needed to reach #9.  This was also a record breaking single - Girls Aloud had become the first female act to see its first 11 singles all chart in the Top 10, breaking the Spice Girls' record of 10.

"See The Day" went on to sell over 50,000 copies in total, and re-entered at #101 when actress Lucy Benjamin performed her own rendition of the song on Celebrity X Factor in Summer 2006.
