After an extremely successful 2003, Girls Aloud enjoyed some well-deserved time off from their hectic schedule.  However it wasn't long before the girls were back in the studio recording tracks for their forthcoming second album. 

"The Show" was chosen to be the first release off it, and received its Radio & TV debuts in May 2004, to a generally positive response. 

The girls themselves later revealed that they had been worried about how the single would do - they felt they had a lot to prove now that the first album period was over.  They had no need to be worried - the single charted straight in at #2, beaten only by 2004's leading male soloist Usher, with his massive transatlantic hit "Burn". 

"The Show" went on to sell over 75,000 copies in total, 28,000 of which were shifted in its first week.
